Fluff Busters by Joe Quinones
Fluffbusters by Joe Quinones!! Featuring (from left to right) Me, Liz Prince, Maris Wicks, Joe Quinones, and George Pfromm II as slimer!

Every September Union Square pays tribute to Archibald Query and his invention of Marshmallow Fluff here in 1917. As part of the third annual festival learn the story behind one the festival’s beloved characters, Fluff Boy.

In this 32-page full-scale comic book Somerville graphic artists tell how Jimmy, a sweet youth in Union Square, is transformed into a Fluff-filled super hero and through struggles comes to terms with his new sticky super powers. Includes additional shorter tales inspired by the nostalgic foodstuff that is Fluff.

Stories by Matthew Reidsma (High Maintenance Machine), Liz Prince (Will You Still Love Me if I Wet the Bed?, Delayed Replays), Joe Quinones (Teen Titains), and Maris Wicks (Dots For Eyes, Talk Nerdy to Me). Cover art by George Pfromm II.

The artists also contribute real and mock ads that reflect the location and period of the main story -- 1917 Union Square -- and the sometimes odd-ball nature of comic book advertising. You can get in on this right here.

I am so excited. The fact that a friend of mine is drawing a comic with Liz Prince is enough, but it's about Fluff! I'm going to end up eating so much Fluff, I'll have to brush my teeth like 10 times a day. Oh wait, I have braces, so I already do that. Damn you, Matthew Reidsma! Why are you so awesome?

Also, I think it would be really awesome if you offered a single volume of the entire run of your diary comics. I know that's probably hard to do, but hey, it's an idea and I'd totally buy that. Now that I have your comics I find that I want to give them as gifts, but I can't pick a single month that I prefer, and I want my friends to know about all of your stuff. Plus, a thicker volume of your work would double as a bug-smasher, paperweight, and (if it fits into a breast pocket) bullet-stopper. Ever seen Johnny Dangerously? You'll know what I mean.

So exciting to get my Fluff Boy in the post!!!

Would it be okay if I post this photo on my blog? (No worries if it's a problem, don't want to give anything away for you guys!) I love your Fluff Boy story, you just get better and better. And the other three were new to me, I went totally nuts over the panels showing where marshmallows come from. Comics don't get better than that!

Thanks so much! Sarah xx

Post away! Glad you liked it. Liz and Joe and Maris are something else! I love the Moby Dick panel the best.
